Sometimes your offspring have to complete the task to get life circle full and reunion done.Stories about Sahir- S D Burman falling out and never working together after 'Pyaasa are the stuff legends are made of.What the duo couldn't do was done by SD's son Pancham when Yash Chopra brought Sahir-RD together for '73 release 'Joshila '. The movie was a flop despite red hot pairing of Dev- Hema after 'Johny Mera naam'.Its soundtrack didn't set the box office on fire though it had some smashing chartbusters like' Kiska rasta dekhe' ,' dil mein jo baatein hain' because it had some awfully bad acting by Dev Anand under the nose of Yash Chopra. Dev Anand had started looking caricaturish in early seventies and here too, if you watch minutely he looks like a lesbian man towards the end of the song' Sharma na yoon' we revisit today. Cabarets were really big those days post 'husn ke lakhon rang' by Padma Khanna. It too had two- three seductive- sensuous kind of songs and a gem of a song filmed on Bindu and crooned by Asha Bhosle with in- between dialogues by Dev Saheb.The beauty of the song is addition of his voice that adds chutzpah to the song. It was a safe bet to have Bindu's one sensuous song to ensure success of the film.Here she had major supporting role as vamp too.Sometimes supporting cast shows better acting chops than lead cast and in this case Pran and Bindu were the saving grace of this lacklustre film where the director himself was not keen to direct in the first place. Pran plays proverbial Thakur sahib with Bindu as his trophy wife.But she has some other plans to eliminate him. In this song she is trying to seduce Dev Anand whom she has hired to do the job. The number is not a cabaret song but a slow paced, erotic song taking place in Bindu's palatial bathroom and by poolside with fountains ,very larger -than -life 70s style.It really acts like slow poison and swoons you. The song starts with Asha Bhosle's whispering and gets louder and relatively fast paced later on. In joins Dev Anand with ' nahi to' to Asha Bhosle's query 'chup kyu ho'.Both stanzas have such kind of intrusion. Bindu is swathed in bikini in the pool and we have a shirtless Dev Anand but both are seen in bathrobes and Bindu in shining gowns later on.Bindu had a lot of cleavage,skin show to demonstrate which she does like a queen but age was definitely catching up with Dev Anand and it had visible signs and he looks double the age of Bindu. Yash Chopra had brought a fresh sense of chicness with great attention to detail regarding costumes with films like Waqt and here too Bindu looks elegant in body hugging sarees and even in revealing clothes. Costume designer Meeta Hassan has done a decent job creating gowns for her. Never ever she looks crass and vulgar, whatever she does and wears suits the situation. As used to be the fate of such songs,the song used to get completely blacked out when it got telecast on Doordarshan!It is high time Rajiv Rai or Aditya Chopra sued Doordarshan for indemnity caused to them.
